As a kid, I have always wanted to grow up quickly. I was always looking forward to the next adventure, the next biggest craze, and the next grade level in school. My hometown of Shawnee Kansas and the USD 232 school district provided me with opportunities to develop who I was... Or atleast who I thought I was. I was active in cheer, dance, student body, ambassadors, wrestling manager, and mostly everything else. However, I knew two things for certain: 1) I was never going to be a teacher, and 2) Acting on stage was an adventure that I would never take on.
One day, the high school drama teacher approached me and asked me to audition for the fall musical. I was confused, but out of respect (and with a lot of fear) I auditioned. This one push from a teacher, this one brave act, this one choice shaped shifted me into a new woman; thankfully the woman I am today. Now theatre is my passion. I love every aspect, job, and fine detail that goes into creating theatre. Not one show is ever the same, nor will it ever be recreated. It is the capture of human experience and telling the truth of human emotion. It is the ability to let people into your soul while also wearing a mask hiding your true identity.
Yes, I found theatre to be my home. However, I also found whom I wanted to be for others. With the support of my high school drama teacher, I washable to learn the most valuable life lessons, become supportive and encouraging of others, and strive to always learn from everyone around me. I was now a life long learner, and thrives in new knowledge and making new connections. The greatest and most heroic thing I could think of to do is to inspire and ignore passion into peers and others just as my teacher had done to me. So it was clear, I must become a teacher. I am currently on that journey as a Senior at Kansas State University (go cats!) and am double majoring in Theatre and Secondary Education (Speech/Theatre).
