The Principle of Change
George Couros, author of "Principle of Change", is currently an “Innovative Teaching, Learning, and Leadership Consultant”, as well as the author of “The Innovator’s Mindset“. Formerly, he was the Division Principal of Innovative Teaching and Learning with Parkland School Division, located in Stony Plain, Alberta, Canada, and has over 17 years of experience as an educator, in a myriad of roles from K-12.
Couros opens his blog by giving the visitor a sense of who he is. He talks about his passions, family (shown in the picture above), inspirations, and even shows us his dogs Odom and Cooper. He also talks about the importance of teaching and how we get to "what is best for kids". I loved this section Becahse it made me feel inspired by his passion, and engaged in the information he was going to provide inside the blog.
Mainly the blog talks about George Couros's book, "The Innovators's Mindset" and provides additional resources, links, and videos to support his book. Within the blog he provides chapters that elaborate on the teachers role of innovating the students mind and the way they think and create. The blog goes into great detail and provides questions and answers that teachers might have. Couros also provides visitors to the site to see the reviews and comments of the book through tweets.
In review, George Couros's enthusiasm and passion about the students and teaching is what really pulled me into the site. Without the personal details, the site could have been bland and boring. It was George himself that created a fun, enthusiastic , and interesting blog. This took me throughout the entire site, and allowed me to dig deeper into his book and figure out how to change the mindset of students and allow creativity in the classroom. So overall, I believe this blog is effective. If the blog it's self is not recommended for new teachers, then the book "The Innovator's Mindset" should be!
